Take your aquascaping skills to the next level with our hands-on Aquascaping Hardscape Workshop! Learn practical tips, techniques, and design principles from a professional aquascaper and discover how to create aquarium hardscapes that are balanced, natural-looking, and full of depth. Your hardscape is the backbone of your aquascape—it establishes the structure, creates visual flow, and provides the foundation for your plants. A great hardscape can transform an aquarium, while a poorly planned one can make even beautiful plants feel out of place.

During this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how to select and combine hardscape materials, including stone and aquarium-safe wood, and how to use scale, proportion, negative space, depth, and visual balance to create a cohesive aquascape design. You’ll then put those concepts into practice by building your own hardscape! This is a great opportunity to experiment, get hands-on experience, and learn techniques you can use on future planted tanks and aquascapes.

Designing a hardscape for an existing aquarium? Email us the dimensions of your aquarium before the workshop so we can help you plan with your specific tank in mind. Participants are welcome to purchase any hardscape materials they would like to take home at the end of the class, making it easy to turn your workshop ideas into your next aquarium project.

Important Workshop Information

Super glue, heavy stones, and wood will be used during this workshop. Minors must be age-appropriate for the activities and accompanied by an adult. Please wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to get hands-on with your hardscape!
